Project Details

In fall 2015 Davidson College completed the Harry L. Vance Athletic Center, a 50,000 sf addition to the Baker Sports Complex. The expansion houses new practice gyms, men’s and women’s basketball operations, as well as a new game day entrance and lobby. Jack Porter worked with the athletic administration to enhance the fan experience and tell the Davidson story at these new touch points, in particular the Nisbett Hall of Fame.

When you walk through that room, you get a feel of our success here, and that the future is bright at Davidson.

The Strategy

The hall of fame combines large format backlit imagery with curated pieces of athletic memorabilia to tell the rich history of the teams and individuals that comprise Davidson Athletics. Central to the overall experience is an interactive video wall serving up an array of historic imagery for users to explore. Touching an image activates stories of champions and historic moments, while also allowing users to easily navigate to related content. The result is an experience that engages the visitor in Davidson Athletics and can grow and transform as the story unfolds into the future.

A Cascade of History

The interactive video wall serves up an every changing stream of imagery representing Davidson's great people, teams, and moments. Users can touch any of these images to begin organically navigating through the program's history, or may use the menu system to select specific topics.

The Impact

"The work has led to a draw from fans, perspective recruits and parents to come in and enjoy themselves in the space. I think it was a challenge, but Jack Porter did a terrific job. It’s exactly what we thought it would be and then some. It’s been a monumental change to our program"
